I’ve inadvertently wiped out the Spot the Frog website. I’m setting up markheathcartoons.com with another host, to replace markheath.com, hosted at Homestead. I forgot that Spot the Frog was also hosted at Homestead. When I called and blithely asked to end my account, Spot the Frog went with it. Most people, no doubt, keep copies of their websites on their computer, but not me. I don’t balance my checkbook, I don’t organize my sock drawer. The overdrawn and sockless are destined for misfortune. I’ll call Homestead this morning and see if Spot’s ghost still haunts their office.
Of course, there’s a chance that I did this on purpose, my subconscious at the reins, because Spot’s demise extends beyond the website. I’ll be bringing the strip to an end July 5 (dailies), June 29 (Sundays). This will be six month’s shy of the five year contract. The reason is the usual one: too few client papers, the need to earn money to replace my missing socks. I spoke with United Media and they were sympathetic to my odd sock fetish.
In the meanwhile, I’m contemplating the final Sunday, searching for the perfect exit.

Say it isn't so!!!! No more Spot?
I look forward to reading it on-line every day at work and weekends in the paper. I even have Spot as a "favorite" in my on-line links on my PC desktop. A little reminder that we all need a little humor in our lives every day.
I hope something even better is waiting for you just over the horizon....
I will miss Spot very much. I wish you would reconsider.
$#@%! as they say in the funny papers. Mark, I'm awful sorry to hear this. There a damn too few frogs these days, especially in the comics. And Spot has more charm and brains than most of his brethren.
I'm voting with those who say "reconsider"!
Oh man, I am so sorry to hear this... Spot is a particularly brilliant brand of funny that is all too rare these days. The syndicate and papers don't know what a gem they have/had.
Sigh...
Bummer news! Would it help if we organized a sock drive? I hope you can cook something else up.
Blast! I'm really sorry to see it go.
Just to add my voice to the sadness....yes, this is woe inducing news. And just to echo Mr. Anderson's sentiments - the syndicate doesn't really recognize the gem they have.
Be well Mark.
Sorry to hear this. I hope you will be continuing to cartoon in some form and that we can look forward to a new (and more lucrative) creation.
